Ever notice that vacuuming is a repeated effort? Wouldn’t it be nice if your hard work was a one-time thing? We only had to mop once, and the floor would stay clean. Scrub the sink once, and it would still shine. Wash down the stove top, and it would forever repel spills.
Sometimes I treat prayer like that. Couldn’t one prayer cover all needs? Couldn’t I just blanket my whole life with one prayer and settle it once and for all? But prayer doesn’t work that way. Prayer is a two-way conversation that cultivates a relationship with our Heavenly Father. By coming to Him repeatedly, I give Him permission to sweep out the closets and cubbyholes. I give Him access to my circumstances and invite Him to guide my responses.
First Chronicles 5:20 says the Lord answered the cries of those in battle because they trusted in Him. I am finding out that trust is built upon experience, and the more I experience God’s faithfulness, the more I know that He is trustworthy.
Here is a prayer Ruth Myers voices in 31 Days of Power (p. 33): So now I’m Your servant, Lord, committed to live for Your glory. I ask You to live out Your life in me with Your love and limitless power. Give me the grace and strength to more and more constantly let You be the answer to my every need…my every shortcoming…my every opportunity to glorify You. Work in me both to will and to what pleases You.
Will you trust Him to help you with your battles today?
